Dear humans,
This fall I’ve found myself thinking about connection.
If we look to nature, we often see that the world is giving us signs about how we might choose to prepare for the season ahead. Fall is a time when the world prepares to turn inwards. It’s not yet the season of hibernation, but rather of preparation.
The leaves drops to make space for the potential of snow on their limbs; the honeybees set to work preparing their hives. So how are we, in turn, preparing ourselves for the slower, colder days ahead?
I just listened to this beautiful episode of From the Heart where Rachel Brathen talks about all this and more. I’ve always loved Rachel, and I recommend giving this episode a listen.
As I was listening to Rachel talk, I was struck by something else that fall teaches us: the inextricable connection between all things on earth. How magical it is, for example, that the trees all know to drop their leaves at the same time. How the birds set their course in the same direction.
As humans, we must be connected in these deep ways, too. Sometimes we’re just so busy that we forget to see it.
So our readings for this month are about many things, but mostly: connection.
I hope you enjoy them.
Sending love,
Izzy
