Dear humans,
Summer is an interesting time in the yoga studio. I’m not sure what your experience is, but in Colorado, where the summers are hot and dry, I typically see a dip in studio attendance. There are a lot of other ways to move your body! Hiking, biking, swimming, rafting. So if you notice that happening, know that you aren’t alone.
With all that fun can also come a sense of overwhelm. The pace of summer tends to be quicker. It’s both exciting and fun, and it can be tiring. I like to remind my students during summer that it’s okay if they are starting to feel a bit of burnout. It’s okay if they recognize that they have been moving too quickly. The yoga mat is a place where they can pause; where they can rest.
The readings from this past month showcase the tastes of summer – delight in the simple things. You can see that some mention “June” specifically, but I think they are still applicable to share all summer long.
I hope you’re having a summer filled with whatever you need most: adventure and play, or slow pace and rest. Maybe a beautiful balance between the two.
Sending love,
Izzy
